Vivtar also makes one now called the 6200W is i only like 130 bucks at some places. The pentax also does not have a cover over the lens, the lens unit is sealed but not covered just an extra line of defense if you ask me The part i don't like about the pentax and olympus is the fact that they need proprietary battery's and the Olympus us xD cards but if you have fuji you probably already have these. You actually have a couple more options as well THe 790 is only good for 10 feet of water wheras the 770 is for 33 feet of water, go with whatever suits you!!!!! If you get the Olympus 770SW (33 feet waterproof for ONE hour only) you can freak people out by dropping the camera (5 feet and under) or jumping in the water with the camera.I did it and people gasped, that is until I told em it was waterproof! Dropping is more fun because of the look people have on their face, until you tell them it's shockproof. I used both cameras on my last cruise and both cameras took excellent pictures on land and the Olympus does take decent shots underwater.

I can't haul, my canon around with me because it is bulkier than the Olympus-the 770SW wins there. The ones I took turned out OK, but then the water was not perfectly clear, but they looked pretty good! The only thing I do not like about the camera is where the shutter is, upper left corner, which is why I had be careful to have my fingers out of the way!!!! The size is small, very small, unlike my Canon A540 which I can get a good grip on and take quick photo with one had.

I really like the 770SW, it is so easy to use and it does take decent underwater photos. I bought the Olympus 770SW because I was going to go snorkling with the stingrays and I didn't want to waste money on those crappy undersater disposable cameras. it would be nice to surprise him with one with which he could actually see the screen underwater.anyone have any suggestions? Olympus 770SW or 790 SW are ones I'm considering.

First off let me say I have a SeaLife Reefmaster and DH does NOT like it.he can't see the LCD screen when it is in the housing.I would like to get a new digital camera for him for Christmas that can be used for snorkeling and land use.Not one you have to put into a housing for water use.I think that he would be much happier with a camera like that and besides.then I wouldn't have to listen to him "complain" about the uselessness of "shooting from the hip" and hoping he caught the barracuda or shark that he saw.last cruise he couldn't tell if the darn thing was on or not.shot lots of pics only to discover that it wasn't turned on.let me tell you he was NOT a happy camper :eek. Okay.I have done some scanning on this forum and have found a couple of options for a good underwater camera without a housing.
